Beaches Gili Trawangan

The islands best beaches

White sand beaches and crystal-clear waters are what the Gili Islands are most well known for. The entire coastline offers beach opportunities, with each area having its own unique character. Explore some of our favorite spots from the recommendations below.

Northern Beaches

The beach on the north-east of the island is a short 100m stroll from Kuno Villas, so you’ll have your feet in the sand within minutes of leaving your villa. This beach is generally nice and quiet, with plenty of space to relax. There’s several places nearby where you can enjoy a sunbed in exchange for a tasty lunch or a refreshing drink. It is also the best beach for turtle spotting, so don’t forget your free snorkel gear at the reception.

There aren’t as many “hawkers” at this beach as there are at some of the others, which makes for a more peaceful experience. Please note that access to the ocean can be complicated at times due to the tides, and it is recommended to wear protective footwear.

Western Beaches

On the south-west coast is a beautiful strip of white sand which features a cool beach club as well as some small, kooky, alternative beach bars. In the evening you can experience magnificent sunsets in this area and also have your photo taken on the iconic ocean swings. This area is a short 10-minute cycle away from the buzzing main strip, but itself offers plenty of places to relax, eat and drink. There is live music and bonfires to be enjoyed on a nightly basis.  From Kuno Villas it is a short, scenic cycle, and you can use our free bikes to make the 10-minute journey.

South Eastern Beaches

South of the main jetty is a strip of beach featuring a vast array of bars and restaurants.  This area is known as “central”, and most places provide seating or reclining options to enjoy their beachfront. Here you will find some great lunch spots, fantastic evening dining options and holiday cocktails to suit all palettes. If you are looking for peace and quiet though, this is not the beach for you.  However, if you like your nightlife and a bustling beach vibe, this is where you’ll find both. Ocean access for swimming and snorkeling is much easier here, as there is very little coral at the water’s edge, unlike other parts of the island.  Just be mindful of the larger volumes of boat traffic in this area.
