Creative innovation can be born from many places. At Kuno Villas, it has come from a deep-rooted passion and an honest desire to provide our guests with a unique and luxurious experience, coupled with a low impact and sustainable footprint.

From the outset, we knew we wanted to combine our intimate knowledge of traditional, antiquated Indonesian homes, with high-end modern amenities, in a manner which embraces eco-friendly values on an island we hold so close to our hearts. We are very proud to say we have achieved this.

From the sourcing of materials at the inception of the project, right through to the ongoing waste management and recycling elements happening across the estate today, we’ve created an exceptional space for you and your loved ones to enjoy the best of times, with sustainability at its core.

Each of our exquisite villas, with their own character and energy, have been individually designed and conceptualized by the Kuno family. We have personally overseen the entire evolution from pencil drawings to the hand-crafted masterpieces we see today.  With backgrounds in architecture, carpentry, landscaping and more recently sustainable living models, we have managed to fulfill a lifetime dream and create a timeless villa concept.

The Wood

The main buildings of each villa have been sourced primarily from Java, and were once the residences of nobility and aristocracy. Careful to retain all the original structural work, these charming antique pieces, have been immaculately restored, and represent a period of time extending back over 120 years.

Due to the extreme care and attention necessary during the restoration process of these precious artifacts, we enlisted the best in the business, The Old Tree Company.  The craftsmanship carried out by these passionate and dedicated men is a delight to behold.  Using techniques almost lost among modern times, these remarkable carpenters were able to breathe life back into the wood upon which the foundation of our story lies.

Sustainability

As a species, we’ve never been more aware than we are now, of the importance of the natural world around us, and of the need to preserve it.  From the outset, we had always had sustainability in mind, but only once we began on our journey, did we truly understand how far we could take it.

Over the course of several years, we have learnt a lot about this topic, and we have implemented everything we can, in every single area of the resort, to minimize consumption and reduce our footprint on this delicate earth.

From reclaimed, recycled and restored wood for all the buildings and earth walls for the perimeter fences, to bamboo straws and water recycling, we have combed through the entire complex, and made each element as truly sustainable as possible.  And we promise we will continue to do so in line with new techniques and further development within this sector.

We look forward to your stay.
